While Bridgeworth has had interns scattered throughout the years, myself included (Summer 2014), we set out this year to develop a formal internship program for college students interested in a career in financial planning. Because we have several University of Alabama Financial Planning alumni, we thought the best place to start looking for summer interns would be the Family Financial Planning program at UA.

Our goal is to have our interns experience what “real life” looks like in the day-to-day operations of a financial planning firm. We want them to develop a basic knowledge of our software and procedures and be involved in some meetings, which is something that cannot be easily simulated in a classroom.  We hope that our interns leave this summer with an idea of what post-graduate life may look like and maybe even learn a few things while they are here.

Tara Henderson

Our first intern this summer is Tara Henderson, a rising senior/master’s student at The University of Alabama. We asked Tara to give us her background, as well as what she is expecting from her internship at Bridgeworth:

“As a Birmingham native, I am excited to be back in my hometown for the summer working at Bridgeworth! Having originally graduated from Mountain Brook High School, I am now continuing my education at The University of Alabama. I am currently a rising senior pursuing my undergraduate degree in Consumer Affairs and graduate degree in Financial Planning. I plan to complete both degrees by May of 2020 and sit for the CFP® exam within the year after graduating.”

“When looking for an internship, I wanted to be a part of a company that values its employees and client relationships. After researching and talking to others in the area, Bridgeworth kept coming to the forefront and fit the principles that I valued most. When I first interviewed for the summer, I immediately felt at ease, heard, and valued. Since accepting the role as an intern, I am now excited to learn more about financial planning outside of the classroom. By seeing the day to day operations and learning from Bridgeworth advisors, I hope to obtain knowledge and valuable skills that will help me as I prepare to enter the financial planning industry.”

Taylor Cameron

The second half of the summer, we will be joined by Taylor Cameron, from Loxley, Alabama and a rising senior at the University of Alabama. She is pursuing her undergraduate degree in Consumer Affairs and graduate degree in Financial Planning. After graduation in 2020, Taylor plans to prepare and sit for the CFP® exam. Taylor found Bridgeworth by first doing research on internships, determined to give herself every opportunity to find the company that best suited her career goals while upholding her core values as an individual.

Taylor shared, “Coming from a small town, I knew these opportunities would be very slim, so I expanded my research beyond the bounds of my hometown. From my first interview, I knew that Bridgeworth would give me the opportunity to learn how to be a reliable, knowledgeable partner in the financial planning process. Through these next few weeks, I am excited to work with industry professionals who will equip me with the knowledge and skills needed to be successful.”

Bridgeworth is excited to work with these two outstanding students this summer.
