Magic Moments was founded in 1984 by Shelley Clark, who had a vision of giving children in Alabama struggling with illness an opportunity to forget about their condition while having a magic moment come true. Clark talked to other community leaders and with a small grant from the Junior League, Magic Moments was born. Since that simple beginning, Magic Moments has grown into a state-wide organization and has granted more than 4,300 magic moments to Alabama children with chronic or life-threatening medical conditions.  It is the only wish-granting organization devoted exclusively to children in Alabama.

Families simply want their children to have an opportunity to laugh and play like a “normal” kid – to experience the everyday joys of childhood that are so often lacking when a child has spent much of his or her life in a hospital. Medical complications and expenses make vacations almost impossible for families, yet they are often desperately needed; a vacation allows families to relax, reconnect, and focus on fun. Younger children most often choose to go to Disney World. However, Magic Moments has sent a budding “fashionista” to Fashion Week in New York, an aspiring singer to meet Adam Levine on “The Voice.” Other children ask for something as routine as braces for teeth or for a bedroom makeover. Magic moments are limited only by a child’s imagination and children never lack imagination.

Over the years, Magic Moments has provided shopping sprees, meetings with celebrities and athletes, an adaptive bicycle, a custom made backyard fishing pond, a life-size playhouse, a swim with dolphins, college tuition, a horseback riding on a beach in California, the opportunity to attend major league baseball and NFL football games. One child requested a ONE way ticket to Hershey, Pennsylvania. Much to his dismay, Magic Moments provided the magic moment recipient and his family tickets to return home.

While the magic moment is magical, the relationships last beyond the magic moment itself. Staff and volunteers reach out to families to form relationships that continue throughout and after treatment. Through Magic Moments Family Camp, Magic Moments Night at The Greatest Show on Earth, and Magic Moments Night at the Barons – Magic Moments families, volunteers, supporters, and staff  stay connected, forming a caring support network throughout the state.

In this magical season of giving and sharing, Bridgeworth is pleased to support Magic Moments.
